Q |
Can lectio be experience
rather than Scripture? |
| |
We teach here at Beech Grove
that there are three texts that are
revelatory: experience, Scripture and
Nature. Experience, most likely is the only
text if you consider that Scripture is a
record of the inspired writer and Nature is
received by someone’s senses so it too is
really an Experience.
Three considerations about the text of
Experience as revelatory: |
| |
1. |
We are open, receptive and
grasp the text with profound reverence and
awe. This is grace, as we know it in the
tradition. Experience is our senses at work
and a report of our awareness. |
| |
2. |
Consciousness is awareness
of our experience. Being human is being
alive and awake. |
| |
3. |
We are awake to presence.
Being that holds all forms of existence is
beyond digital input and focal thoughts. The
reason we want to transcend the thinking and
egoic mind is so that we observe and are
vigilant of the great windows of the soul. |
|
Experience can be an
episode, a relationship or a moment of
insight. In one sense, there is nothing
else!
