Example:
If it is Scripture I will stop at a "hot spot," or take the Feast of the Season,
like Pentecost, or a psalm, a book in its entirety (Jonah), or a passage.
Usually, it is something I’ve puzzled about for some time and heard it “as if
the first time” or it seemed to just get between my eyes and I see it
everywhere.
So, right now I am saying “yes” to an encounter with Pentecost. For years I was
so taken with the time between Christ’s resurrection and Ascension that I never
really got to Pentecost. This year feels different.
Or if it is Nature the text would rise something like this: When I awaken or
fall asleep in my mind’s eye is my recent experience of walking on the San Diego
Beach last month with Father Justin and Rachel Cave. The day was glorious. I
still hear the sea, feel the sand and taste the salt air.
Or if it is Experience the text would be something like this: When in England
recently I prayed with the monks of Farnborough Abbey. They chanted from the
same breviary I used as a young nun. The mass in that French styled church was
grand and right out of my childhood memories-the Latin, the incense, the long
chants that murmured into my sub consciousness. I prayed day after day for a
week and got into the rhythm, cadence and attunement with that classic form.
